It has been a little while since I recorded a song, though actually I recorded one not too long ago that I was very happy about but it was of the spiritual variety and I shared it mostly with my family. (If you are interested in that sort of thing let me know). This one I recorded yesterday and it is a bit of a deviation from my lately folk ish bent, but it was inspired by something I heard that was so sweet…and I couldn’t tell you what it was…it’s about love, of course. So if you want a free mp3 of it let me know at thejunipertrees@gmail.com. It’s not quite done I have to add some fiddle but it will go out in the next couple of days. j

I just had to post about last night’s show because I had such a nice time with my friend Teresa Storch and all who came out. As I have said, Teresa and I have known each other about 14 years and this was our first show together! Crazy. We traded songs, sang together, and played together. Thanks to the audience who were a really eclectic group of interesting people! The Laughing Goat is one of my favorite places to play music as there is such a creative and open atmosphere.

Also, on the walls at the Laughing Goat is some really really cool art. They are marionettes, handmade from felt and other materials, inside glass boxes. You can move them around yourself if you want. They were really beautiful and I highly suggest if you live in the Boulder area that you check them out.

This Thursday night I will be at Shine with more of my band members so come out and say hello!

I just wanted to announce my next show which I am very excited about. I will be playing solo, and trading songs, with a dear friend of mine, Teresa Storch, a beautiful folk singer based out of Longmont. Teresa and I have been friends for about fourteen years, and we have NEVER played a show together. Totally ridiculous, and we are remedying it ASAP. So, we will be at The Laughing Goat coffee house in Boulder on Sunday, August 12th, from 9-11pm. Come and sit with us for a fun night of songs and stories. Opening for us will be Amy Schmidt from Lincoln, Nebraska.

Send me a request for a cover you want to hear that night to thejunipertrees@gmail.com, and I will learn it (to the best of my ability!)

And I am including a photo of a beautiful dancing bird because it is so sweet!

Hey there!

I wanted to write a post about the upcoming UMS of which The Juniper Trees will be a participant! We are very excited to be a part of this festival, that showcases some of the beautiful talent of the local music in Colorado. It is really wonderful that The Denver Post, and the city itself, does this, and offers an opportunity for us all to gather and listen to music together of people living among us in our awesome state!

We will be playing at the Skylark on Sunday, at the start of Sunday’s festival, at 3pm.

I will also be going to see Brian’s other band, Radical Knitting Circle, who play on Sunday at the Skylark at 9pm. And we will be playing with Kramer Kelling, awesome upright bassist extraordinaire!

We will have some new songs, and some old songs to play for you guys. Bring your dancing and crooning shoes y’all.

XO,

Jenna

Hi people, it has been a while since I have posted so I thought I would first of all remind you that we are playing at the Laughing Goat Coffee House in Boulder, tomorrow night, Friday.

AND, most importantly, I recorded myself playing and singing “I’ll Be There” by The Jackson Five, one of my favorite songs of all time, just ten minutes ago on my home computer. I had to share it…as I said to the mailing list, please play it for your beloved and dance with him or her in the living room.

Songbird CD Available!

Just wanted to announce that my new CD, Songbird, is now available for download at CD Baby:

http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/jennaherbst

Shortly it will be on itunes as well!

I am pretty excited about this as it is my first solo album, and it came out of the Songbird Challenge which I so enjoyed. Let me know what you think of it, either in a comment or through email at thejunipertrees@gmail.com.

Also, I made a video which was posted on Couch by Couchwest (CXCW) online festival! This is one of the coolest festivals EVER, as it has such a wide variety of bands who you may never get to hear otherwise. Plus you get to watch people play music on their couches which is pretty cool. I had my dog Lilah with me. Check it out here (you may have to scroll down a bit to get to my video, but enjoy all the others along the way…)

That’s all for now, hope this evening is treating you well…jenna

CD Mix/Mastering, Art, Layout, and Photo - Mark Raynes; Photo of Jenna - Regan Drouin

I just wanted to thank everyone for the fantastic show on Saturday at the Laughing Goat, with Story and Clark. Thank you for coming out and contributing to such a joyful atmosphere. Songbird CD’s are here!! I am pretty excited about this considering it is my first solo CD and also that Mark Raynes worked so hard with mixing, turning out a very pleasing end result. Right now the only way to get the CD is at shows, and by emailing us at thejunipertrees@gmail.com. I will be getting it onto itunes and amazon in the next couple of months.

Just wanted to say thanks for the night of music, and also that we will be at The Walnut Room again on March 10th. Now we will be focusing on The Juniper Trees album, which is partially finished.

In addition, those of you on the mailing list know that I started up the Songbird Challenge again, with a new tune called The Shore. To get on the list and receive free mp3’s just email me at thejunipertrees@gmail.com. That’s right – FREE MUSIC. No strings attached. 🙂 Also, sign up to the right where it says “email subscription,” I only post about once a month and usually just to tell you about music available, new tunes, etc., that may not be on the mailing list.

And yes it is true that I have made the absurd self challenge of writing 100 songs within the context of the Songbird Challenge and including the 8 – song challenge I did and The Shore, I only have 91 songs to go.

See you in March, and do nourish the very heart of yourselves that beams with beauty,

Jenna

I just wanted to post about our 2 upcoming shows, and the Songbird Challenge. I just gave all 8 tracks to my friend Mark Raynes for mixing. I had planned to do 3 extra tracks, but 3 weeks of sickness, 2 of which were larygitis (from which I am still recovering) overrode those plans! Things somehow work out with some semblence of order, so I am just waiting to see what happens…

I am still excited to continue the Songbird Challenge. My goal is to write 100 songs! But I don’t want to get started until my voice is back, and since we have some shows coming up, I need to rest it.

Next week on Thursday, Feb.2, we are at The Walnut Room with Blow the Vault. Then, Feb. 11th we are at The Laughing Goat with Story and Clark. This is the show where I am claiming I will have a CD. I think it will happen, but the way the Universe has been, I am offering up life and just saying “whatever you decide” !

Hope to see you soon,

Jenna

The Songbird 8 week challenge is officially completed…in 9 weeks. The last one took me a little extra contemplation. So now it is time for voting! I want to know what your favorite four are of the bunch, and then I will record them with the band. Drums, upright bass, and banjo will be added! If you missed the tunes because you aren’t on the mailing list, just email us at thejunipertrees@yahoo.com with “Songbird Challenge” in the title, and I will send you all eight tracks.

A Songbird Challenge CD with all eight tracks and three mystery tracks will be available at The Juniper Trees show on Feb 11th at The Laughing Goat in Boulder, CO.

Also, we will have a live video webcast of our show at a private party on December 30th. It will be free to watch, so stay tuned for more information about that.

Last, but not least, I have made a decision about whether or not to continue the Songbird Challenge. My decision is yes. I have never felt more inspired musically than making music specifically to send to people. My recording skills are moving along at a snails pace and I am really enjoying the whole process. I will start up again after the holidays, and this will go on…indefinitely, until I feel like I need another break! So sign up at thejunipertrees@yahoo.com to receive weekly songs in your inbox.

My inspiration from the Songbird Challenge is why I included the picture of the Aurora Borealis. Such a beautiful natural phenomenon. What is your inspiration? Where does your creativity meet your inspiration? What do you want to share with the world? Feel free to add it in the comments below, or email us. I invite you to a challenge, to share weekly/monthly what you are inspired to create. And feel free to add us to your list.

Thanks as always for listening,

Jenna
